FrontLiner Profiles: LaTonya Murray

“I truly believe that we are here to be a safety net to the most vulnerable people of our community.”

LaTonya Murray, Chief Equity & Quality Officer, has worked at FrontLine Service since 1991.

Q: What are your basic job responsibilities?

A: I support and facilitate our anti-racism efforts—such as working with our strategic plan—to become an anti-racist organization. I also lead quality improvement [initiatives] for the organization.

Q: What is your favorite part about working at FrontLine?

A: The culture. We have a culture of support for our staff, we’re very flexible. We’re not here just to support a community in crisis but also our staff if things arise—because things do come up for all of us.

Q: What is a hobby, interest, or routine you have that is not related to work?

A: I do love to read. I try to read every other day. Right now, most of my stuff is racial equity-focused and anti-racist-focused [The Price of the Ticket by James Baldwin], so that is what I’ve been reading lately… I don’t see it as a hobby, it’s just a part of me. I used to love being on punishment because that was the time I could be by myself so I could read.

Q: Is there anything else you want to share about yourself or the work you do?

A: That I’m committed to change. I’m committed to making this organization a better place for everybody at every level.

Q: What would you say to someone who is interested in working at FrontLine?

A: It’s a great place to be. I really like working here and I always have. But like I’ve said, there’ve been some challenging times, but overall if you believe in the mission of the organization this could be a good place to be.
